A little happiness

A little happiness

I was thinking about how it would feel to be hungry for days, or maybe to not be able to eat the food that I love because it is out of my price range. As I was thinking about this (because of this project I am always thinking about the hardships of homeless people whenever I walk in the street) and I suddenly saw my friend, a homeless gentleman that always asks for change but also makes me smile with a nice phrase every time e cross each other's path. So all these thinking had me wanting to do something. After he told me his leg was swollen and he was finding it very hard to walk, I asked him:

"What do you want for lunch?"
He told me: "Meat soup! From the Caribbean restaurant."
"What Caribbean restaurant?"
"I'm not too sure..."
"Well, if you don't tell me where is this place how can I get it for you?"
He laughed, and suddenly another homeless man who was sitting with us said: "I think they sell it in that Jamaican restaurant next to New Cross Gate station."

Then I knew where he meant. I went to the library, did what I had to do, then about an hour later I got him the biggest bowl I could get to take away of Jamaican meat soup. I went back to the same place I saw him last, and he wasn't there! I was so sad because how could I find him? Who would have paid enough attention that if I ask at the station or a near shop "Have you seen the man who was asking for change about an hour ago if he left a while back or just recently?" who would pay attention? I was worried I wouldn't find him because I myself couldn't even eat the food, I'm vegetarian and that was far from being what I could digest. But he suddenly came out f the station, and i felt so relieved.

"Where were you? I thought you left."
"No, no, no, I was waiting for you." and he smiled while I gave him the food. He looked so happy I can't even explain the spark in his eyes and the widest of smiles he gave me. My heart felt it, and that made my day. I made someone happy because I truly put myself in their shows for a second. Even if i don't have lots of money and i knew the meal was going to be a bit pricy, what mattered at that moment? My wallet of his stomach?  I learnt something today, something very very valuable. Think about it and tell me what you learnt.
