Perry Firth, Project Assistent of Seattle University's Project on Family Homelessness , talks about Dehumanization of homeless people.

This article analyzes how dehumanization takes place in general public mental activity and therefore is rooted in the spectrum of society.

Firth highlights the scientific aspect of the dehumanization process. The 2006 Princeton University study on Dehumanizing the Lowest of the Low: Neuroimaging Responses to Extreme Out-Groupsanalyzed by Firth, shows what happens on a neurobiological level when people think about drug addicts or homeless.

The essay reveals the power of the extreme prejudices of the richest part of society towards the homeless that leads to the dehumanization of the latter. Considering and (even unconsciously) perceiving someone less human than us, does not solicit the will to offer help, respect or our time

"Whenever you can substitute an animal for a person in a sentence and have it still work, it is worth reflecting on whether dehumanization is occurring." (Firth)
