Our Rationale

What is the project about?

The project is about challenging the misconception of homelessness as being dirty, and lazy. This is done by constant interviews with homeless people and people who volunteer with them. All these interviews will later be composed into a podcast which will be transmitted online through different social platforms. This will all be done to raise awareness and sympathy for people being in a situation which could happen to any one of us as well as a situation which not many people prepare themselves for.

What makes it political?

Everything in life is political, even homelessness. How the homeless are treated is based on the perception which is given to them politically. The structure of some cities is tailored towards keeping homeless people out and present a city which homeless people are practically non-existent.

The definition of homelessness is located in the legislator:

Housing (Homeless Persons) Act 1977

In politics, homelessness is a political issue as it reflects how countries government views its people. How the government treats homeless people and the sympathy it has can trickle down to how the rest of the country views and treats them.

Who is the project for?

This project is for everyone, including the homeless. This project aims to challenge the misconception which means the project is aimed for people to change their minds on homeless people and their perception. As well as giving the public an increasing amount of knowledge about homelessness, homeless people and how your everyday interaction with them can affect them as people often seem to disregard how a homeless person feels when someone passes them by simply because they harm homeless.
