Our Goal and my personal observation.

Our goal is to bend the socially accepted rules and norms of engagement within the homeless community and observe how that affects them, as well as the people around us, and yourself. We are going from a basis that emphasises the systematic issue in our society that leads to such extreme homeless concern and the vicious cycle it has driven the average citizen to adopt, i.e. turning a blind eye on the homeless, viewing them as ghosts.

Through a process over several weeks, we will be able to build a consistent database of the homeless people we might become more familiar with, as well as our increased noticeability of the matter and the effects it has on us, as an “awoken / aware” citizen in this society.

We have already posted a variety of different posts containing media, scholar work, statistics and personal on opinion on the subject of homelessness. Very soon we will be working on a short film.

Personal observation:

This research topic has made me much more aware of the number of homeless people I encounter on a daily basis. My subconscious has dehumanised to see them as part of the background and not what they are, a human with feelings and emotions, just like me. This has opened my eyes to realise there are much more on the streets then I initially thought just by mere visual observation. Homeless people tend to stay around the same areas and are often ignored by commuters, even if they take the same route every day! Even if nothing is provided they often take well to a conversation our a few kind words
I have interviewed a homeless man called Kieran and provided food for him. Details of this interview will soon be posted on this blog.
