De-bunking the Myth of Homelessness

From our discussion in class on Friday, we decided to make the point of our rationale which asked what our aim was to be to challenge the misconception of homelessness people in society.

De-bunking Myths and Misconceptions: A Human Approach to Homelessness
This article speaks about the misconception and myths of homeless people given to everyone in society. It outlines what people say and how they as a charity aim to change it.

A misconception is defined as a mistaken notion. What is the mistaken notion given to homeless people? Homeless people are often looked at as castaways, the bottom of the barrel, lazy and dirty. Many people ignore and do their best to avoid crossing paths with them without taking into consideration or even giving the slightest thought as to how these people ended up in the state which they are in. In other cases, people in different situations are given more sympathy and thought, this could be because they are seen as humans. Many forget that homeless people are people with dreams, hopes and ambitions. No one grows up imaging or aiming to be homeless, many people do their best to avoid this outcome. However, life can be cruel to many, even those who plan for it, so to treat someone as though they aren't human and have nothing to show for themselves is taking away from what we hope society to be, a peaceful and welcoming place for all.
